What brought this tsubject to mind for me was the realization that this week's Mighty Avengers was essentially a cosmic book - focusing on Marvel Boy and the Skrull Captain Marvel.
I will admit that I did not know what to make of the ending. The frustrating thing about it is that I'm not quite sure where the answer is going to pop up. New and Mighty Avengers have had random stories ever since Secret Invasion began. Captain Marvel's story has been especially fragmented. Maybe the story will be touched upon in Mighty Avengers 320 - but then again, that's Bendis' final issue on that title so he ought to have a lot of ground to cover with the team itself. The preview blurb for Mighty Avengers stated that "in this special Secret Invasion tie-in, the lives of two of the most famous Kree, Captain Mar-Vell and Marvel Boy, will alter the events of the Invasion forever. This special issue will have very serious consequences for the future of Mighty Avengers." After reading it, it only seems significant if either Marvel Boy or Captain Marvel ends up as an Avenger. Its not clear which one will end up with the title - but i'm leaning towards expecting Marvel Boy to be the one to take up the mantle. In any case, when the dust settles - we ought to end up with a significant addition to the cosmic Marvel line-up, if not two. |

I don't know who the new Captain Marvel will be, but I'm liking Marvel Boy's chances...

I actually liked the idea of a Skrull Captain Marvel because to me - it went to the core concept of captain Marvel as I understand it.
An alien champion who defied his own race out of his own personal sense of justice and honor. The Skrull twist was a very clever way of re-introducing this element. It seems that CM's defining characteristic since the 80s has been dying of cancer, the noble sacrifice. I actually know little of the current Marvel Boy. But if he embraces the path of Captain Marvel, then how much of the personality his current fans enjoy will have to be left behind? I'm okay with either direction. But a couple of years of them serving together as a team might make for a more interesting story. Marvel Boy would get to stay a little rougher around the edges for a while longer, and CM could deal with any lingering after-effects of the Skrull Invasion. [Though it may well be that the Skrulls were simply a device used to re-order the Marvel landscape] |

I actually haven't read GoG #6 yet. I'm looking to sit down and relax this weekend to really enjoy it!
![]() I justmanaged to read Mighty Avengers on the fly because sad to say [as a long, long time Avengers fan] I only skim through the Avengers books for the most part these days. The writing was on the wall as far as which character looked to be getting the biggest push. So I can't say I'm shocked. I'm also interested to see what comes next, and team membership looks to be the next step. Fortunately, it will be in the hands of Dan Slott, whose work on Avengers:The Initiative inspire confidence that he can do a great job. |

I think that Captain Marvel died at the end of the Avengers issue. My impression is that this was going to be the motivating factor for Marvel Boy to become a real hero.

Yeah it was. I've put together a synopsis of Noh-Varr's role in Secret Invasion. When you look at Illuminati #2, they basically telegraphed this whole storyline.

I would like to know why Ms Marvel is considering more stronger that Mar-vell in all her incarnation, Carol and Rogue are in class 50 and Mar-vell just in class 15, the same level that Spider-man !!!! The guys fight directly against powerful foe like Drax, Thanos and Super-skrull, in Marvel team-up Ms Marvel have been defeated by the same super-skrull and in one of Ms Marvel comics of the first serie, she was defeated by Ronan without problem before that... Mar-vell come and kick his ass, I think it's a big mistake from the official handbook, except if someone have a valid explanation, and it's the same thing about Kismet (class 70) and Warlock (class 40), I never see a female conterpart for others characters stronger that the male, I agree for these characters that they are in the same level, but no way for to be twice stronger, in civil war battle report, Carol is in the class 75 (without binary power) and Mar-vell 25 !!! I never feel or see something like that in comics.

Maybe the class 75 for Ms Marvel is a misprint.
In the handbooks I have, both Captain Marvel & Ms Marvel are ranked at 4 in strength, which is the 800lb - 25 ton range.

I'm guessing here because I don't always pay attention to the stats - but i could see Marvel upgrading her stats as part of their campaign to establish her as the company's premiere female hero.

Uh Oh, here comes trouble
![]() Personally, I agree and think it was a cruddy thing to do regarding "bringing back" Cap and then using him to (try?) and give Noh-Varr a boost. I thought his mini was pretty good. I am curious if Noh-Varr is going to take on the title Captain Marvel. I don't think they are going to, at least in the solicits it doesn't appear that way.

If, and thats a big if --Noh-Varr does take off -- then its only natural [at least in my opinion] that Captain Mar-Vell eventually meet him some way, some how.

Dude, where did you find this at? This could be really cool, if it doesn't turn out to be yet another Mar-Vell hack job! I trust DnA with him, though, much more than anyone else at Marvel!

I hope they aren't just toying with Captain Marvel fans.
With Phyla involved though -- it would not be a surprise to see her interacting with her biological father. Great find! |

http://mojoblender.blogspot.com/2008...axy-11-12.html "So I had to wait a little while until I could talk about it, y'know, contracts to be signed and all that boring stuff but now that's all done so I can let you in on what I have coming up. It's two issues of Guardians of the Galaxy and it's for Marvel! I'm giddy about this project for three reasons: Reason number one; it'll be my first time working for Marvel. Before now it's always been gigs with DC and Wildstorm, but like any artist in mainstream comics I've always wanted to do something at The House of Ideas. So here's my chance. The second reason is that it's a chance to re-team with writers extraordinaire Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning. We had a great time working together on Texas Chainsaw Massacre at Wildstorm and we've been looking for a chance like this to put our talents together again. Reason three; I've always loved these Outer Space-style Marvel characters, I've been waiting to work in Science fiction in general for a while now. It's a genre that gives me the chance to let my imagination go wild. Probably my favorite thing to work in along with Fantasy. It's going to be a really fun book, the two issues focus on the characters Drax and Quasar and it comes out in March 2009. Please check it out, and if you forget, don't worry, I'll be reminding you!" Mar-vell and Phyla, , I just remember something, the story seem to indicate that Phyla and Drax will be in Death kingdom, do you think that we will see........Thanos of Titan, new King of Dame Death !!!!! Mar-vell and Thanos again in the same comics, it would be amazing.I just find the cover with Mar-vell !!! Sorry it's a french forum, I don't find the source, see and I hope you like it, specially Matt, do you see what there are in the knee of Phyla, I don't want to give you false hope, but I think you like that. http://superpouvoir.com/~marv/Marvel...GAL011_cov.jpg http://forum.superpouvoir.com/showth...341#post263341 Mar-vell is a real bad father.

![]() As far as Mar-Vell being a bad father goes, you can't hold Genis and Phyla against him - that was done after he'd died. Plus, wasn't the birth of Teddy withheld from him? When he does come back, he ought to be shocked to see he has 3 kids. |

Hopefully the genuine article too [Captain Mar-Vell].
I started reading comics after Mar-Vell had already died - but my first memory of seeing him in a comic i bought off the stands [his guest appearance in Silver Surfer] was great, even though I still can't be 100% sure if it was him. But just imagine a Starlin/Lim Captain Marvel? [along with a separater ongoing Starlin/Lim Silver Surfer]

I do remember Cosmic Powers.
That was the last time Marvel really went all out for the cosmic books - until the current era. Unfortunately they were doing the same thing with every genre and just flooded the market. I would have loved to have seen a longer run for that Cosmic Powers team. |
